"The hotel, which was built near downtown Palm Springs in 1948, was a place to go after the "initial boom after World War II when people had money and cars and wanted to vacation in a place like Palm Springs," Hess continued, noting that the property could possibly garner interest beyond its current use due to its location and large footprint."
The Exotic Dreams Resort Hotel in Palm Springs was listed for $10.5 million in July. The property sits about a mile east of downtown and contains 40 rooms, many newly renovated, an expansive pool and a so-called 'play maze' for adult guests. The resort has been a retreat for gay men and a popular clothing-optional stopover for swingers. An architectural historian noted the property lacks architectural significance but reflects Palm Springs' history of bohemian, healthy- and nature-oriented lifestyles. The hotel was built in 1948 and its location and large footprint could invite redevelopment, raising questions about scale and replacement.
