Brownsville Arts and Culture Apartments Will Debut in 2027
"The Brownsville Arts and Culture Apartments will include a cultural arts center that will span more than 28,0000 square feet."
"The 366 Rockaway Avenue project will include 283 new units with rents set as "affordable" for New Yorkers earning between 30 percent and 70 percent of the Area Median Income, or between $43,740 and $102,060 per year for a family of three."
""Making New York City the best place to raise a family means creating affordable homes and delivering high-quality community spaces; that is what this project is all about," said Mayor Eric Adams, in a statement. "We'll bring hundreds of new affordable homes to Brownsville and give New Yorkers a vibrant place to dance and perform.""
Construction will soon begin on the mixed-use Brownsville Arts and Culture Apartments at 366 Rockaway Avenue following a ceremonial groundbreaking. The project will create 283 affordable units for households earning between 30 and 70 percent of AMI ($43,740–$102,060 for a family of three), with studios through three-bedrooms and units set aside for formerly homeless New Yorkers. Current guidelines place 30 percent AMI rents starting at $800 for a studio and $1,263 for a three-bedroom. BACA's cultural arts center will span more than 28,0000 square feet and include a large multi-purpose room for rehearsals and performances. The development is part of the Brownsville Plan and is a public-private partnership on city-owned land with $88.1 million in housing subsidies from HPD and HDC.
