Vinicius Jr: Neymar deserves 'Last Dance' at 2026 World Cup
Neymar was named to Brazil’s World Cup squad after months of uncertainty following an ACL injury in October 2023. Vinicius Jr said he had regular contact with Neymar before the announcement and described Neymar as an idol who defended him and expressed disappointment after previous squad selections. Vinicius said playing with Neymar again would be an honour and hoped for a “last dance.” Vinicius also stated that Brazil’s number 10 shirt belongs to Neymar. Brazil finished fifth in CONMEBOL qualifying but will compete in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Vinicius expressed a desire for the World Cup matches to be the best of his life and listed Spain, France, Argentina, Portugal, and Germany as favourites, while not naming England.
"Neymar is our idol. He has always been very important to me and has defended me a lot. "After every [previous] squad announcement, Neymar would tell me he was sad not to be selected. I told him the coach trusted him and would bring him in when the time came. "Playing with him again would be an honour. Hopefully, a wonderful last dance.""
"I don't know what number I'll wear at the World Cup, but the number 10 belongs to Neymar, that's obvious,"
"Brazil struggled through the Conmebol qualifying section, winning just eight of their 18 games and finishing fifth, 10 points behind arch rivals Argentina. Nevertheless, they will be among the teams to watch in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer."
"I hope the eight World Cup matches will be the best games of my life. "Playing for Brazil in the biggest tournament in football is a dream since I was a child.""
"Spain, France, Argentina, Portugal, and Germany are the favourites."
