Xabi Alonso, manager of Bayer Leverkusen, has downplayed speculation regarding his future amidst links to Real Madrid. Currently, Leverkusen is in contention for the Bundesliga title, trailing Bayern Munich by six points with five games remaining. Alonso emphasized the importance of concentrating on the ongoing season rather than rumors about his potential departure. Despite interest from major clubs last year, he expressed a desire to remain at Leverkusen following discussions with club leadership, after achieving notable success in his first full season as a manager, including winning the Bundesliga and German Cup.
I don't want to talk about speculation and rumours. [I understand] that this is happening, but what's more important to me is what's happening right now.
Alonso was linked with Real, Liverpool and Bayern Munich last year, but told a news conference in March he wanted to stay at Leverkusen following talks with the club's hierarchy.
