Antonio Rudiger has issued an apology following his actions during Real Madrid's Copa del Rey final loss to Barcelona, where he threw an object at referee Ricardo De Burgos. The match, played in Seville, ended 3-2 in favor of Barcelona after extra time, marking a disappointing end to Madrid's season. Tensions were high, especially after allegations regarding the integrity of De Burgos. Rudiger faces potential bans ranging from 4 games to a year depending on the severity of his actions, which he acknowledges were wrong in his public apology.
There's definitely no excuse for my behaviour last night. I'm very sorry for that. We played a very good game from the 2nd half on - After 111 minutes I was not able to help my team anymore and before the final whistle I did a mistake. Sorry again to the referee and to everyone I disappointed last night.
After De Burgos lashed out at Madrid's treatment of officials, Los Blancos suggested the Spanish FA should change the referee and had to deny reports they were considering a boycott of the game.
