Bayern Munich Alumni: FC Barcelona's Hansi Flick says Xabi Alonso has great future after leaving Real Madrid
"When Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid parted ways earlier this week, it came at the hands of Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona after the Catalans emerged victorious in the Supercopa de España. Clearly, that was the final nail in the coffin for Alonso's coaching career in Madrid, but - as we would find out - things were exceedingly bad between the coach and some of the players in locker room for quite a while."
"This is football. It's not something I'm worried about. I have a very good relationship with Xabi, we knew each other from his time at Leverkusen and we kept in touch. He's a fantastic coach. This is football. I wish him all the best. We have to move on and think about what and how to improve. But he's a fantastic coach and I'm sure he has a great future,"
"Flick, who is no stranger to unceremonious exits, probably sympathized a bit with Alonso, though he was not going to show too much remorse to his club's sworn enemy. As Flick said, Alonso will now move on, sort through what went wrong, and try to find a way to move forward."
Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid ended their association following FC Barcelona's Supercopa de España victory. Prolonged locker-room tensions between Alonso and certain players existed prior to his departure. An opposing coach expressed admiration for Alonso, called him a fantastic coach, wished him well, and emphasized the need to move on and improve. That opposing coach has experience with abrupt exits and likely empathizes with Alonso's situation. Alonso will now move on, evaluate what went wrong, and seek a way forward in his coaching career.
