Susan was a runner. Maybe she pulled something, but she went to her doctor and then she- I guess she got an MRI. And it was cancer, and that was her first indicationhip pain."
"Susan, she was 54 years old and in top shape, running a few miles a day at that point. And on top of everything, Susan had never smoked. Joanna Strober: Susan led the most healthy life. She didn't eat sugar. She was very careful about exercising every day. She was very careful about not eating pesticides."
In late 2022 Susan Wojcicki experienced hip pain that led to an MRI revealing metastatic lung cancer that had already spread. She was 54, physically fit, a regular runner, a non-smoker, and a parent of five who resigned as YouTube CEO to focus on treatment. The diagnosis raised questions about how lung cancer can progress without detection and why the leading cause of cancer deaths receives less funding than some less lethal cancers. The case also highlights that non-smokers can develop aggressive lung cancer. Susan Wojcicki passed away last year.
