Turkey dental work leaves woman in constant pain
""Every day I wake up and I can't breathe through my nose," Ms Abeyance, a DJ and producer, said."
""With the bone graft, I could feel a hammer smashing into the side of my face. "The sinus lift, I could feel my whole face being lifted up. My face was black and blue""
Leanne Abeyance, 41, travelled to Antalya in April 2024 for four dental implants after previously having veneers fitted there. She paid £3,000 in cash, having been quoted about £50,000 in the UK. Procedures included a sinus lift and bone graft under local anaesthetic, but she reported feeling the surgery and significant facial trauma, swelling and bruising. Temporary teeth were fitted, but she avoided returning for permanent implants. After returning to the UK she developed painful infections, could not have the implants removed, and spent an additional £2,000 on private treatment at home. A collapsed septum now prevents normal nasal breathing and the NHS classified septum repair as cosmetic. The government warned about risks of travelling abroad for cosmetic procedures.
