A 16-year-old boy drowned in the Feather River in Northern California after falling into the water during a gathering on July 4. Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, the Yuba County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible drowning in the Feather River, a Sacramento River tributary known for fishing and whitewater rafting.
Officials said a 16-year-old from Marysville fell in and began to struggle before submerging.
Working in tandem with the Yuba County Sheriff's Boat Unit, divers and aero squadrons found the teen's body in 17 feet of water on Saturday around 3:30 p.m.
This tragic incident highlights the unpredictable hazards of river channels, especially in colder temperatures and with such strong undercurrents.
