A truck carrying large boulders attempted to overtake a tourist bus on a winding County Clare road in 2017, forcing Vincent to swerve to avoid it and crash with the car behind the truck. The crash killed three-year-old Estlin and left Vincent with a severe brain injury. The truck driver was fined and banned, then on appeal received a suspended sentence and was allowed to drive again. Calls were made to outlaw large-truck overtaking on winding national roads and to pursue legislative changes, safer road design, junction upgrades, and new safety technology; the Government approved a related Bill in April.
