Three Feinberg Students Named Schweitzer Fellows - News Center
Briefly

Three students from Feinberg have been awarded Schweitzer Fellowships to undertake projects that tackle unmet health needs in Chicago. Medical students Catherine Chen and Andrea Mia Bejar, along with physical therapy student Nikita Rabbitt, will spend 200 hours collaborating with community organizations. Chen's project will educate Asian American parents about reproductive health through interactive simulations. Bejar aims to assist Latino patients in accessing radiology services. Rabbitt plans to offer dance classes for foster youth to enhance self-efficacy and emotional regulation.
Through interactive simulations and facilitated conversations between students and parents, my project hopes to address gaps in education, overcome language barriers, and foster open dialogue, offering a novel, community-rooted approach to reducing stigma and promoting reproductive health literacy.
I hope to break down some of these barriers so that patients can be empowered to advocate for, receive coverage and understand their necessary imaging care.
I chose to apply for the Schweitzer Fellowship because I wanted to create a supportive environment where foster youth can express themselves through movement and dance, which helps build emotional regulation and personal empowerment.
