The world's top designers are exploring whether the private sector can move the needle on the UN's SDGs | Fortune
"Every time you design something, you're making an active choice on the future you want to build,"
"have to sit up and take responsibility,"
"ensure a consistent and reliable water supply"
Designers from ten major global organizations formed Design for Good in 2022 to apply design towards UN Sustainable Development Goals. The alliance operates on two-year timelines and focuses one SDG per cohort. The first cohort (2022–2024) targeted sanitation and access to clean water; the second cohort, begun in 2024, targets access to quality education. Projects are developed with local partners and are now being implemented and scaled in real-world conditions. Examples include WaterStarters, an app for technicians and franchisee managers in rural Kenya to track and complete water maintenance tasks. The initiative emphasizes designers' responsibility given their potential to enable systemic change.
