Status Orange warning extended to Louth with more counties under Yellow alert; some Dublin schools close early
"The National Emergency Co‑ordination Group (NECG) has warned that the country faces another challenging period of severe rainfall on Thursday and Friday, with status orange and yellow warnings now in place. With further heavy rain forecast for the next 48 hours, the NECG is urging the public to remain vigilant as conditions may deteriorate quickly. The emergency group met again today and warned that very heavy rainfall on already saturated ground, combined with high river levels and high tides, is expected to lead to localised and river flooding, hazardous travel conditions, and coastal impacts."
"It highlighted that flooding may occur even in areas experiencing lighter rainfall, as high river flows can carry impacts downstream into neighbouring counties. The public is advised to closely monitor weather updates on met.ie and river and coastal levels on waterlevel.ie. People should stay alert, as even small amounts of additional rainfall could trigger significant flooding in vulnerable areas."
"Anyone threatened by rising floodwaters in their home or vehicle should call 999 or 112 immediately. Emergency services, including fire services and the coast guard are ready to respond at all times. Road users are urged to allow extra travel time, expect surface water and debris, and never attempt to drive through floodwater or bypass road‑closure signs. Transport services may also be disrupted, and passengers should check with operators before travelling. Local authority websites and social media channels will continue to provide updates on road closures, community alerts and localised impacts."
