Six former surgeons general say Kennedy is "endangering" the nation's health
""Despite differences in perspectives, we have always been united in an unwavering commitment to science and evidence-based public health," they wrote. "It is that shared principle that led us to this moment.""
""Repairing this damage requires a leader who respects scientific integrity and transparency, listens to experts and can restore trust to the federal health apparatus," they wrote. "Instead, Kennedy has become a driving force behind this crisis.""
""Instead of helping pregnant women make informed decisions during a critical period in their lives, Kennedy's decisions risk causing confusion, fear and harm," the surgeons general wrote."
Seventeen former U.S. surgeons general appointed by presidents dating back to George H.W. Bush described plummeting morale, prioritization of ideology over science, and the fleeing of public health talent amid rising health threats. They stated that repairing the damage requires leadership that respects scientific integrity, practices transparency, listens to experts, and restores trust in the federal health apparatus. The officials condemned RFK Jr. for promoting dangerous and discredited vaccine rhetoric, including debunked autism claims and misrepresentations of mRNA and COVID vaccine risks. They pointed to actions such as ousting the CDC vaccine advisory panel and limiting COVID vaccine eligibility, and warned that speculation linking Tylenol to autism risks confusion, fear, and harm to pregnant women.
