Sen. Cassidy calls for vaccine advisory meeting to be postponed amid CDC departures

Sen. Bill Cassidy urged the Department of Health and Human Services to indefinitely postpone the vaccine advisory committee meeting and said any recommendations from it should be rejected as lacking legitimacy. The Trump administration is attempting to fire CDC Director Susan Monarez less than a month after Senate confirmation, and her lawyers have challenged the legality of the ouster. Several top CDC officials resigned, citing disagreements over vaccine policy. The Sept. 18 agenda includes COVID-19, Hepatitis B, RSV and MMRV vaccine discussions and possible votes. HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the CDC has problems and called for stronger leadership and a review of agency priorities.
