"We're not only serving South County, we're also helping decompress some of the volumes in San Jose,"
"South County is a priority for the healthcare system and the county,"
"The Latino community has had a death rate from coronary heart disease that is higher than the national average,"
Santa Clara Valley Healthcare opened a cardiac diagnostic center at Saint Louise Regional Hospital on Jan. 6 offering echocardiography, continuous heart monitoring, treadmill stress testing and other services. The expansion brings diagnostic heart care closer to South County residents who previously drove up to an hour to San Jose and already includes patients referred from other county hospitals. Saint Louise's emergency room handles about 130 patients daily, with peaks near 160. The county acquired the hospital in 2019. County officials cite a $1 billion funding cut from HR 1 but emphasize commitment to South County and Latino health, where heart disease is the leading cause of death and Latinos live two years less than counterparts.
