""I was not aware of anything to do with the Massachusetts legislature on transportation or any local politics before Minh-Thi was killed," Gomberg, a graduate student at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said. "Now I see it all very differently.""
""This year, I'm hoping that the ride can also be more of a forward thinking way for people who've lost their loved ones to collectively join in action," Gomberg said."
""Ride and Walk for Your Life Boston" events include a memorial bike ride, a memorial walk, and a rally at the State House, organizers said in a press release."
Alexa Gomberg separates her life into before and after the death of her lifelong friend, cyclist Minh-Thi Nguyen, who was fatally struck by a truck in Cambridge in June 2024. Gomberg co-founded Families for Safe Streets Massachusetts and helps organize Ride for Your Life Boston. The initiative and partner bike-safety groups will hold events for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Nov. 16. Planned events include a memorial bike ride, a memorial walk, and a rally at the State House. Last year's event drew more than 400 people, and Massachusetts recorded 78 pedestrian deaths in 2024, a 16 percent increase from 2023, according to AAA.
