Affected committees addressed critical health areas including childhood vaccines, newborn screening, Alzheimer's disease, health equity, infection control, and long COVID. At the FDA, four advisory committees were terminated covering arthritis, medical imaging, pharmaceutical sciences, and patient engagement. Notably, the administration appointed members to the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee who promote the debunked vaccine-autism link, prompting researchers to establish a competing nongovernmental committee. These actions undermine biomedical research processes and public health infrastructure with potentially long-lasting consequences.
