About 80,000 patients received these medications on free drugs schemes in the last year. The number of people receiving the injections through taxpayer-funded programs rose by one-third compared with 2023. The HSE spent an average of €580,000 per day on these jabs during the last year. The expenditure reflects growing uptake of GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines funded by the public health system.
