Resident doctors vote for strike action in row over jobs
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"The British Medical Association (BMA) said the ballot of first-year resident doctors saw 97 per cent (or 3,950) voting for strike action on a turnout of 65 per cent, providing a mandate for industrial action alongside the linked dispute over eroded pay. According to the union, 34 per cent of resident doctors surveyed said they had no substantive employment or regular work from August 2025. This rose to more than half (52 per cent) among FY2 (foundation year two) doctors."
A major news outlet solicits donations to fund on-the-ground reporting across issues including reproductive rights, climate change, and Big Tech, and to keep reporting accessible without paywalls. Donations support investigative work and documentaries such as 'The A Word' and enable journalists to interview both sides of a story. First-year resident doctors in England voted overwhelmingly for strike action over job security fears and long-term pay erosion. The BMA ballot recorded 97% support (3,950 votes) on a 65% turnout. Thirty-four percent of resident doctors reported no substantive employment from August 2025, rising to 52% among FY2 doctors, and talks must address jobs and a 21% pay erosion since 2008 to avoid industrial action.
