"we cannot afford a repeat of"
Around 4,000 pharmacies across England will offer free NHS nasal flu spray to eligible two- and three-year-olds from 1 October, expanding access for about 1.2 million toddlers. Both walk-in and booked appointments will be available to increase vaccination uptake. Last winter saw over 300,000 hospital bed days due to flu, nearly double the previous winter, prompting intensified efforts to protect vulnerable groups and reduce transmission. Vaccination remains available to people aged 65+, clinical risk groups, care home residents and carers, contacts of immunosuppressed people, frontline health and social care staff, children, and pregnant women. Mobile clinics and nursery-based delivery will target low-uptake areas.
