One in eight women a victim of violence, ONS says

In the year up to March 2025, new estimates show that one in eight women experienced sexual assault, domestic abuse, or stalking. Around 5.2 million people aged 16 and over, approximately 10.6% of the population, faced these crimes, with 12.8% being women compared to 8.4% of men. The breakdown reveals that 2.9% experienced stalking, 7.8% faced domestic abuse, and 1.9% encountered sexual assault. Furthermore, there were 9.4 million overall crime incidents in England and Wales, a 7% increase due to rising fraud incidents.

The survey found that 5.2 million people aged 16 and over were likely to have experienced one or more of these crime types, with 12.8% of women affected.
The individual breakdown shows 2.9% experienced stalking, 7.8% experienced domestic abuse, and 1.9% experienced sexual assault.
The overall crime figure for England and Wales included 9.4 million incidents, a 7% increase from the previous year, driven mainly by a rise in fraud.
