Moderna received FDA approval for an updated mRNA COVID-19 vaccine while the FDA narrowed eligibility to people aged 65+ or those with underlying conditions instead of anyone six months and older. Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said the change complicates protection for high-risk household members and noted some states now require prescriptions to obtain shots. HHS secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has pursued actions limiting vaccine recommendations, faced Senate scrutiny, and in May canceled a $590 million Moderna bird flu contract. HHS also announced it would no longer recommend mRNA COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women.
