Just 4 products cause a THIRD of deaths - can you guess what they are?
Briefly

A British scientist, Professor Anna Gilmour, claims that tobacco, alcohol, fossil fuels, and certain foods account for one-third to two-thirds of global deaths. In 2021 alone, these products led to 19 million out of 56 million total deaths. Tobacco is the deadliest, causing over 9 million deaths, while its high addictiveness and the misunderstanding of risks among youth play critical roles in its prevalence. Despite the staggering statistics, the dangers of these products remain poorly acknowledged.
The simplest way to see this is to look at the magnitude of the damage caused by four products: tobacco, fossil fuels, alcohol, and food.
Two out of three smokers will eventually die from smoking. It's so risky. But smoking is generally taken up in youth, when the risks aren't fully understood.
Tobacco is responsible for 20 percent of the deaths caused by non-communicable diseases each year.
In Europe, a study co-authored by Professor Gilmour found that tobacco is responsible for 1.15 million deaths each year - or 10 percent of the total.
