In Sallynoggin, a 45-year-old Ironman contestant intervened during an assault on a young woman pushing a buggy. The cyclist verbally abused her before violently pushing her over, causing the buggy to flip and injuring the 20-month-old baby. The contestant chased the assailant, stopping him until emergency services arrived. Witnesses, including a retired garda, assisted the distressed woman. The husband of the victim expressed gratitude for the help they received from Mr. Warner and others in their time of need.
"I run that route every day. About 200 metres ahead of me, I could see a woman pushing a buggy on the cycle path, and as a cyclist got closer to her he was remonstrating and screaming at her to move off."
"He very violently pushed her - the baby and the buggy flipped right on to the hard ground and he started to cycle off."
"The baby lost consciousness for several minutes, and we were so worried about his injuries."
"The woman's husband... said he will be forever grateful to Mr Warner and to several others who went to assist his 24-year-old wife."
