"If you want to know what a home really looks like, ask a house cleaner. As professionals who tidy up and wipe off messes for a living, house cleaners know the truth of what's really clean and sanitary in bedrooms and kitchens. "People don't clean anything they or guests can't readily see," said Sara San Angelo, a house cleaner based in Charleston, South Carolina."
"To clean a microwave quickly, Amber Elise, owner of Bubbles and Buckets in Otsego, Minnesota, suggests popping in a bowl filled with water and lemon juice or some vinegar to boil. "After about five minutes of just sitting in there, everything just wipes out super easily," Elise said. "In my experience, the part of the house that is the dirtiest is the oven," said María Guiracocha, a New York City-based house cleaner at Liberty Cleaners,"
House cleaners see which areas of homes are genuinely clean and which are neglected. They report that people tend to clean only what they or guests can readily see. Microwaves can be cleaned quickly by boiling a bowl of water with lemon juice or vinegar for about five minutes, after which residues wipe out easily. Ovens often accumulate the most dirt, including grease and food gunk. Cleaning oven grease is important for safety as well as aesthetics. More than two-thirds of U.S. home cooking fires began with food, fat, or grease catching fire, per the National Fire Protection Association.
