Precautions include drinking plenty of fluids, using air-conditioned shelter, avoiding sun exposure, checking on neighbors, not leaving children or pets in vehicles, wearing lightweight clothing, rescheduling strenuous activity to cooler hours, taking frequent shaded rest breaks, and calling 911 for emergencies.
