"After an exhaustive review of the evidence, we are aligning the U.S. childhood vaccine schedule with international consensus while strengthening transparency and informed consent. This decision protects children, respects families, and rebuilds trust in public health."
"shared decision-making."
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has cut the number of vaccines routinely recommended for all children from 17 to 11. Vaccines previously recommended universally, including rotavirus, hepatitis A and B, meningitis, and seasonal flu, are now limited to those at high risk or to use after consultation with a health care provider under a “shared decision-making” category. The overhaul follows a presidential memorandum instructing HHS and the CDC to compare the U.S. schedule with peer developed countries and occurred after advisers voted to drop universal newborn hepatitis B vaccination and heard international comparisons and legal history presentations.
