Group supports those with 'lonely condition'
"[The circle was] really needed, not just for myself but for other people as well,"
"It's been challenging mentally as well as physically,"
"It's very lonely as well, so it's good to have the support in the group,"
"We have quite a lot of resources from charities as well that we're able to hand out,"
Bethany Lewis, 18, from Weston Rhyn in Shropshire, was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in April 2025. She founded The Cysters Circle a few months later to support women and girls with PCOS, endometriosis and other hormonal and reproductive health conditions, holding periodic meet-ups across the county. PCOS causes painful, irregular and often heavy periods and can affect fertility, and the NHS estimates it affects up to one in 10 women in the UK. Lewis experiences very heavy periods and persistent dull pain requiring strong painkillers; early meetings grew from two attendees to eleven, with participants sharing experiences and charity resources.
