Selected stories include an educator's bittersweet memory of his son's first day of kindergarten after recalling humble schooling in Uganda; a Pakistani inheritance tradition where the youngest child inherits; children in Gaza, Ukraine and South Sudan using makeshift play to cope with crisis; Uganda's health system adapting to reduced U.S. foreign aid with trepidation, innovation and resilience; research into how Ebola can persist in survivors during Congo outbreaks; and India's rapid rise in chess with 85 grandmasters.
