"HSE chief Bernard Gloster said today he had recently met with the unborn baby's parents Rebecca and Pat Kiely and provided them with a full apology on behalf of the health service following the loss of their baby Christopher in 2019."
An independent external review has been ordered by the HSE into the case of a couple who terminated their pregnancy more than six years ago after being wrongly advised that the unborn baby had a fatal foetal abnormality. The termination followed incorrect clinical advice that the foetus had a lethal condition. HSE chief Bernard Gloster met with the parents, Rebecca and Pat Kiely, and offered a full apology on behalf of the health service. The apology followed the loss in 2019 of the couple's baby, Christopher. The review will examine the circumstances and advice that led to the termination.
