The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), now under new leadership, will critically assess childhood vaccine safety and the existing vaccination schedule. In its meeting at CDC headquarters, ACIP chair Martin Kulldorff emphasized the need to restore public confidence in health institutions after pandemic response missteps. A new workgroup will investigate the cumulative effects and interactions of vaccines given to children, as well as reassessing older vaccines. This shift comes after the recent overhaul of the panel, replacing members with those who have previously questioned vaccine efficacy, thus reflecting changes in vaccine policy direction under current administration.
"Rebuild public trust in federal health institutions in the wake of the pandemic and inflated promises about COVID vaccines and mandates is crucial," said Martin Kulldorff, ACIP chair.
"The cumulative effects of the recommended vaccine schedule will be evaluated, including the interaction effects between different vaccines and the timing of vaccinations," announced Kulldorff.
