Confirmation Pledge taken by young teens updated to include explicit references to vaping and cigarettes
"speak honestly about harm while challenging the social and cultural norms that contribute to it."
"Vaping has become widespread and is often presented in ways that obscure its risks and normalise dependency."
"an explosion of legal cannabis-like substances in vapes and edibles, posing intense psychosis risks and causing serious issues"
The updated Confirmation Pledge adds a commitment to abstain from smoking and vaping until age 18, alongside existing promises about alcohol and illegal drugs. The change responds to a sharp rise in vaping among young people and aims to encourage healthier lifestyle choices and provide moral and spiritual support during adolescence. Addiction imposes a devastating, often immeasurable toll visible in suffering, broken relationships, mental and physical health problems, criminality, and social upheaval. The IBDI campaigned against vapes containing HHC in late 2024, and HHC was declared illegal in July 2025. Vaping is often framed in ways that obscure risks and normalise dependency.
