Car Stolen with Toddler Inside: See the Wild Chase that Ended with a 'Miracle'
Briefly

A Michigan teen was arrested for stealing a vehicle with a sleeping toddler in the back seat, causing a high-speed interstate chase. Destiny Foote briefly left her 15-month-old son in her running car at a gas station. The suspect took the Chevrolet Equinox unaware of the child inside. The pursuit reached speeds over 100 mph, and law enforcement maintained a cautious distance for safety. The chase ended when the car crashed, and the child was unharmed. Foote described the experience as a lesson about never leaving a child unattended in a car.
"It was a very, very tricky situation," Jeremy Young, assistant chief of the Port Huron Police Department, tells TODAY.com, calling it a "miracle" that no one was injured.
Dashcam footage shows the vehicle weaving through traffic at over 100 miles per hour, with law enforcement in close pursuit, sirens blaring and lights flashing.
Young tells TODAY.com it was tricky to follow the subject while keeping the safety of the public and the child in mind.
Foote recalled breaking down in tears as she held her son tightly after they were reunited, describing the ordeal as a "lesson learned."
