"not a surprise"
"We call for improved training for healthcare professionals, better access to therapies and specialist care so people can manage menopause safely and effectively,"
"Support teams who have this specific experience is very patchy,"
"Oncology, gynaecology, and primary care may not always coordinate well, so patients can fall between"
Ninety percent of 1,200 surveyed reported not receiving care plans to manage menopause-related health changes caused by cancer treatment. There is no direct pathway for menopause treatment support within cancer care plans. Campaigners call for improved training for healthcare professionals, better access to therapies, and specialist care to enable safe, effective menopause management. Some patients experienced early menopause due to cancer treatment and lacked timely menopause management plans. Provision of menopause support is patchy. Oncology historically prioritizes treating and surviving cancer with less attention to long-term quality-of-life issues including menopause, and poor coordination among services can leave patients falling between care.
