The administration carried out reductions in force across several federal agencies, exceeding 4,000 workers among seven agencies, following a directive from the Office of Management and Budget. Leadership roles in immunization and respiratory diseases, global health, measles outbreak response, forecasting, and human resources were affected. Civilian EIS officers, the agency’s primary disease detectives and first responders in outbreaks, were among those RIFd. These cuts create gaps in outbreak detection and global health surveillance.
