Warning to 3.2m Chrome users over malicious extensions to 'delete now'
Briefly

Cybersecurity experts have alerted over three million Google Chrome users about 16 browser extensions that have been compromised by hackers. These extensions, including Adblocker and YouTube enhancers, were found to have malicious code injected, leading to data theft and 'search engine fraud'. The extensions have been removed from the Chrome Web Store, but users must manually delete them. Cybercriminals utilized phishing to take control of these extensions, thus enabling them to exploit unsuspecting users who installed compromised software.
The list includes compromised extensions such as Blipshot, Emojis, Color Changer for YouTube, and many others, with hackers co-opting legitimate software.
Users are advised to delete the affected extensions immediately and ensure they carefully vet prospective downloads, particularly their permissions, to safeguard against future threats.
