Pornhub is urging tech giants to enact device-based age verification
"Based on our real-world experience with existing age assurance laws, we strongly support the initiative to protect minors online,"
"However, we have found site-based age assurance approaches to be fundamentally flawed and counterproductive."
"failed to achieve their primary objective: protecting minors from accessing age-inappropriate material online."
Aylo, owner of Pornhub, Brazzers, Redtube, and YouPorn, urged Apple, Google, and Microsoft to support device-based age verification across app stores and operating systems. Aylo argues that site-based age assurance methods are fundamentally flawed, have failed to protect minors, and pose privacy risks by relying on third-party ID checks. Device-based authentication would determine a viewer's age via phone or tablet and share an age signal via an API with adult sites. New US and UK laws require ID uploads for explicit content, and Pornhub reported nearly 80 percent traffic declines after compliance in affected jurisdictions.
