Microsoft has announced the removal of password management features from its Authenticator app, effective June through August 2023. Users will lose the ability to add, import, or autofill passwords selectively, culminating in August when stored passwords become inaccessible. Though Authenticator will continue to serve as a multi-factor authentication tool, the company encourages users to transition to passkeys as a more secure alternative. Microsoft Edge will still allow users to manage their passwords, highlighting a shift in strategy towards passwordless security.
Come August, any passwords you've saved in the app will no longer be accessible.
Microsoft would really prefer that you start to renounce the dreaded password and move to the more evolved passkey.
