"Our message is simple. Everyone in our community deserves to feel safe,"
"We have been watching the national news and seeing what is happening in other cities. And this is a community that is getting prepared to take care of each other,"
"We have to change the laws. Remember, slavery used to be legal. So, immigration right now is being used to divide people based on racism,"
"Yeah, I don't like being watched,"
Hundreds of people marched in Concord and Oakland on Valentine's Day to protest ICE enforcement and Flock surveillance cameras. In Concord, participants wore white, red and pink to express solidarity and promote neighborly safety. Concerns center on San Francisco Immigration Court cases being redirected to Concord, which could increase ICE presence and detentions. Organizers and officials emphasized community preparedness to protect immigrant families facing heightened enforcement fears. Calls for legal change and warnings about immigration being used to divide communities accompanied the events. In Oakland, more than 100 protesters marched near Lake Merritt, voicing privacy and surveillance concerns over intersection cameras.
