"Concerns about Flock were substantiated. Due to this material breach of our trust and the agreement, the City terminated its contract with Flock Safety."
"Most of the criticism is of the company Flock,"
"Technology can be very useful, but at this time it can be misused and terribly dangerous."
Cambridge ended its contract with Flock Safety for license-plate reader cameras after the company installed two additional cameras without the city's awareness during a temporary pause, citing breach of trust and privacy concerns. Sixteen cameras had been installed in September and were later deactivated and removed. Flock technicians installed two cameras in late November under an outstanding work order that should have been canceled when the account was deactivated. The city terminated the contract and removed the two cameras. The City Council revisited the program after feedback from residents, the ACLU, and Digital Fourth, raising broader concerns about law enforcement data collection.
