Current webcam peeking adversaries face challenges recognizing textual content displayed on screens with mainstream 720p cameras. Observations indicate that identifying graphical layouts is easier than reading text. Graphical information allows adversaries to correlate shapes and layouts with sensitive privacy contexts. A study involving 10 participants explored the ease of recognizing the home pages of top websites using graphical information. The study utilized a closed-world dataset of 100 websites, where participants browsed randomly selected sites to assess recognition capabilities based on visual elements rather than textual content.
Recognizing graphical contents displayed on users' screens is generally easier than reading texts, making webcam peeking adversaries a significant threat despite limitations.
In our experimentation, we found that participants could more readily identify websites through graphical layouts rather than textual content, indicating challenges for eavesdroppers.
