A cybersecurity firm ran a customer satisfaction survey offering iPads as prizes. After securing the iPads for a year, they were stolen just before the giveaway. The support manager wrongly accused the IT team of theft. Investigations revealed that an ex-convict hired as a legal officer was responsible. In response, the company implemented mandatory background checks for all staff and later required employees to upload identity documents to a newly created site that raised security concerns for Boris.
Fast-forward a year - yes, a whole year - and the support team finally got around to the big giveaway. We retrieved the iPads from the safe and handed them to the support manager.
Weeks passed. Door access logs were reviewed, and suddenly our Head of Legal was fired. Turns out, the company had hired an ex-convict for the role, and he'd helped himself to the iPads.
