Ransomware gangs are increasingly using threats of physical violence against employees and their families to coerce organizations into fulfilling their ransom demands. A survey of 1,500 security and IT professionals revealed that traditional threats of system lockouts and data destruction are still prevalent, with 52 percent and 63 percent of respondents noting these respectively. Additionally, 47 percent indicated that they faced threats of regulatory complaints, such as the one made by ALPHV against MeridianLink. Alarmingly, 40 percent reported experiencing direct physical threats from attackers.

According to a survey by Censuswide, digital intruders hold traditional threats of system lockouts (52 percent) and data destruction (63 percent) over their victims' heads.
Almost half (47 percent) of surveyed professionals reported that attackers have threatened to file regulatory complaints, like ALPHV's SEC complaint against MeridianLink.
More worrisome is that 40 percent of respondents reported receiving physical threats from the miscreants.
