96% Worry Shorter SSL/TLS Certificate Lifespans Will Impact Business
Briefly

The shift towards 47-day certificate renewal cycles and post-quantum cryptography is alarming for organizations, with only 19% feeling prepared for the changes. A significant number face reliance on manual processes for certificate management, with 96% expressing concern over the impact of shorter SSL/TLS certificate lifespans. Many anticipate challenges with PQC implementation, and few have assessed their quantum-vulnerable systems. Turner's insights underscore the urgency for organizations to prepare for these looming technological changes and highlight their risk of falling behind in defense against evolving threats.
Rik Turner, Chief Analyst, Cybersecurity at Omdia comments, "Perhaps because they have been around for three decades, it's like TLS certs have kind of been absorbed into the 'plumbing' that simply makes IT work, at least in the perception of many of our respondents."
Turner remarks, "It seems to me that there are two reasons not to simply wait till Q-Day. One is that technology has the ability to surprise us: witness the absolute explosion in AI adoption since ChatGPT was launched on an unsuspecting world in November 2022."
