He is a danger to the community': Former Antioch cop sentenced to 7 years for K9 attack and fraud
Briefly

Morteza Amiri, a former Antioch police officer, has been sentenced to seven years in prison due to his involvement in a police corruption scandal. His conviction included depriving the rights of Adrian Arroyo, who was severely injured by Amiri's K9, Purcy. Judge Jeffrey White emphasized Amiri's dangerous behavior and his enjoyment derived from the attack. Furthermore, Amiri was implicated in a broader scandal involving fellow officers engaged in racist and sexist text exchanges. Despite expressing remorse, the judge noted Amiri's continued failure to grasp the gravity of his actions.
Amiri acted like the prosecutor, judge and jury and in text messages to colleagues he contrasted bites by his dog, Purcy, to the soft Contra Costa District Attorney.
The court cannot ignore the pleasure Mr. Amiri seemed to take in the attack.
Amiri bragged about using the N-word and joked with other officers about injuring Black people, who were frequently referred to as gorillas, in many of the texts.
The defense argued that Amiri's life as a proactive cop in a high-stress city caused him to suffer nightmares, trauma, anxiety, and feelings of hopelessness.
