Geological Viewpoint of the Saliencia or Farrapona Valley / PUERTO & SANCHEZ ARQUITECTOS
Briefly

At the Farrapona summit in the Saliencia Valley, a new geological viewpoint is being developed as part of Somiedo's Sustainable Tourism Plan. This viewpoint, designed to be more than just functional, aims to inspire visitors while offering a 360-degree view of the stunning valley. Crafted from corten steel for durability against harsh weather and nodding to nearby mining history, the structure features an innovative, minimal-impact design that enhances accessibility, allowing even those with reduced mobility to enjoy the vastness of this remarkable natural environment.
The design sought to be more than functional, aspiring to inspire visitors with a viewpoint that reflects the significant geological identity of the Cantabrian Mountains.
The choice of corten steel for the viewpoint nods to the history of the nearby Santa Rita iron mine, ensuring durability in harsh weather conditions.
