The USS Hornet Sea, Air & Space Museum is hosting a Speaker Series that marks the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa, highlighting the story of the IJN Yamato and the USS Hornet's role in its demise during Operation Ten-Go. The event features a brief overview of the Yamato's design, her historic mission during the invasion of Okinawa, and the ensuing confrontation with U.S. naval forces. Jon Boucher, an enthusiastic Docent with an extensive background in history and former firefighting, will lead the presentation. The event is included with regular admission.
This presentation will talk briefly about the design and use of the Yamato, and then the tell the story of Operation Ten-Go which took place on April 7, 1945.
Speaker Jon Boucher, a volunteer Docent on the USS Hornet, blends his interest in ships, aircraft, and history to provide insights about the Hornet's pivotal role.
