Abbas Shafii, a 79-year-old from Beaverton, Oregon, hit a $328.5 million Powerball jackpot, the state's third-largest. He plans to use his winnings for travel, investments, and charitable donations. Shafii's winning ticket, bought just a day before the draw, had 1-in-292 million odds, comparable to flipping a coin 28 times in a row. He opted for a lump sum cash payment of $146.4 million after tax deductions. The store that sold the ticket will receive a $100,000 bonus, with half going to the Oregon Food Bank as part of a community initiative.
"I am overjoyed to have won," Shafii said in his post-jackpot winning statement.
Shafii plans to spend the third-largest Powerball prize in Oregon history traveling, investing, and supporting non-profit organizations that are close to his heart.
The store where Shafii bought his ticket received a $100,000 bonus, which it will partially donate to the Oregon Food Bank.
With odds of winning at 1-in-292m, winning this Powerball jackpot is akin to flipping a coin and having it land on the same side 28 times in a row.
