"The arts are the heartbeat of Oregon's communities. I am honored to serve alongside Jenny and our fellow Commissioners as we continue to expand access to creative expression and support the vital work of artists and organizations across our state."
"The nine-member state board, which is appointed by the governor and is an arm of the state agency Business Oregon, in recognition of the role the arts play in boosting local and state economies. The state arts board's role is particularly important and difficult at a time when federal funding of the national arts and humanities commissions, which for decades have helped fund state arts and cultural programs, have been sharply squeezed."
Jason Holland has been elected chair of the Oregon Arts Commission with Jenny Stadler as vice chair, effective March 2024. Holland, executive director of the Oregon Coast Council for the Arts, replaces Subashini Ganesan-Forbes. Stadler, former executive director of PHAME Academy, replaces David Harrelson as vice chair. The nine-member board, appointed by the governor and part of Business Oregon, recognizes arts' economic importance. Their leadership arrives during challenging times, as federal funding for national arts and humanities commissions has been significantly reduced, affecting state arts programs. Holland emphasizes the arts as Oregon's community heartbeat and commits to expanding creative access.
